Ian believed this internal commitment he had made to become polyamorous , would be met with pure skepticism and assured him of being utterly alone. His marriage and post-marriage experience with engaging in more monogamous relationships left him with a certainty that he must try something different. The world of monogamy felt like a closing down of possibility and polyamory looked like the cure. Contrary to Ian's expectations, his Poly life exploded right out of the gate. He attributes this success to another commitment he made to full disclosure and authentic communication. These principles appeared to work like an aphrodisiac, and, at one point, Ian was seeing four women simultaneously. Overwhelm kicked in and many lesions were learned and continue to be learned about the challenges of having relationships with multiple partners. Many of Ian's partners were curious about polyamory, but not committed to it. In Ian's experience, his ultimately unravels the romantic partnership. The kid in a candy shop enthusiasm calmed down and some decisions were made to step back from the pursuit of so many relationships. Ian is committed to a polyamorous life style, but has developed a more patient approach to make room for partners who have the same views about relationship and not spend time in relationship trying to enroll his partners in taking on polyamory.

Jaiya's career was continuing to soar; she was teaching tantra and sex education all over the country and was now working in the media. She felt that she wanted to shift her career to working specifically on women's issues and she started to study pregnancy and birth. It sparked her desire to have an orgasmic birth and to try having a child. She and Ian began to play erotically with the idea of having a child. In the meantime Jon decided that he really did want to be in relationship with Jaiya and he moved back to LA to help with the business and work on their relationship.

Jaiya took a business trip out of town to Philadelphia, she was very excited to have some time to herself and away from the guys. It was during this trip that she found out that she was pregnant. She remembers sitting in the hotel bathroom with the pregnancy strip, tears in her eyes, incredibly excited about that little plus sign. She couldn't wait to tell Ian, but wanted to do it in person. She actually told Jon first. He took the news very well, a little unsure about what he was going to do, but he was calm and supportive. Jaiya wanted to make a big dinner with Ian and then tell him the news, he knew something was going on, and got it out of her right there in the kitchen as they were preparing food. "I'm Pregnant" she whispered in his ear. He looked at her very wide eyed and said "WOW, WOW..." Ian, though surprised by the news, was immediately committed to having the baby and doing what was needed to support Jaiya through the pregnancy and to raise a child.
