Jamie and Terry both grew up in small towns near Wichita Falls, Texas. Jamie grew up in the baptist church and was very conservative throughout much of her life. Terry wasn't as religious but attended a pentecostal church whenever he was visiting his grandmother. His father was a police officer so he had a very strict upbringing. They went to high school in different towns. Terry played football at his school and Jamie was a cheerleader at hers. Terry joined the Army at an early age and spent two and a half years stationed in Germany.

Jamie and Terry both had previous marriages. Jamie was first married at a very young age. Her husband was exceedingly jealous, controlling, and distrusting of her not even allowing her to go to the mall by herself. The marriage lasted 7 years, mainly because they had children together. But after 7 years, Jamie had had enough and she got a divorce. Terry was married for the first time while he was still in the service. It didn't work out due to some serious emotional disorders she suffered from which he had not discovered beforehand, and which she refused to get treatment for. Still, he stayed with her for almost nine years, helping to raise the stepchildren which he'd become so fond of. Terry's second marriage only lasted six months when he discovered that his new bride was cheating on him... with inmates at the prison that she worked at. When it came to successful loving, trusting relationships, so far both Jamie and Terry had been dealt some very bad luck... until...

An old high school friend of Jamie's decided to intervene in her love life and introduce her to a great guy who he'd been racing dirt bikes with for years... Terry. Both Terry and Jamie were skeptical of being set up by this friend, since he had a reputation for being quite the player. But he kept insisting they were perfect for each other and were both looking for the same things. Finally, he just invited them both to his house party without telling either one that the other would be there. Jamie arrived at the party in a low cut shirt with her belly ring showing, wearing low cut Calvin Klein jeans. As soon as the door opened, she saw Terry standing there in a Fox motocross jersey with his strawberry blonde hair and blue eyes. She knew it was him and he knew it was her. Terry says it was love at first site... Although the first words whispered out of his mouth to his friend were: "I have to see those titties."

They flirted all night long. They sat next to each other while the group played quarters on a glass table. One of the guys made a rule that the next one who misses had to take off their shirt. Embarrassingly, Jamie was the first to miss, but before she had a chance to act out her punishment, Terry stood up and said, "If I can get two in a row in then can I take my shirt off in her place?" He made both shots and sat shirtless, next to Jamie for the rest of the night. He was her hero and she was definitely interested in a second meeting with him.

They talked on the phone every night until four in the morning. After three weeks of no sleep, they agreed that Terry should just stay the night at Jamie's house, so they could get some rest. But that backfired and resulted in them laying in bed talking until five in the morning. A week later Terry asked Jamie to marry him.
